IHC rejects petitions of telecom companies against CC

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected the petitions filed by telecom companies against Competition Commission (CC).
IHC while dismissing the petitions filed by JAZZ, TELENOR, U-FONE, WARID, PTCL and W-tribe has said in its decision that CC is authorized to hold inquiry in all departments including Telecom.
It is pertinent to mention here CC had issued show cause notices to telecom companies on misleading marketing.
These show cause notices were issued in connection with additional fee under service maintenance on pre-paid cards. While telecom companies had got stay order on notice since 2014.
Unlimited internet packages of Mobile companies were declared misleading marketing
PTCL had obtained stay on inquiry into discriminatory prices in fixed local loop services.
The court said in its order that the powers of jurisdiction of CC law encompass all the sectors of economy. Regulatory departments can also come under the jurisdiction powers of CC.
The court rejected all the seven petitions of telecom companies declaring them non maintainable.
