The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has released Rs1.414 billion for a comprehensive cleanliness campaign across the province, as part of its efforts to provide a clean and healthy environment to its citizens. The funds, allocated by the Finance Department, will be utilized to support Village Councils in all 28 settled districts of the province.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Department, the funds will cover salaries of janitors, fuel, and repair expenses for loader rickshaws used for cleanliness purposes. The highest allocation of Rs127.113 million has been earmarked for Peshawar, the provincial capital.
The cleanliness campaign, which commenced in October and will run until December 2025, aims to improve sanitation and hygiene in the province. Local Government Minister Meena Khan Afridi stated that the campaign’s primary objective is to engage Village Councils in the cleanliness drive and ensure public participation in maintaining a clean environment.
The minister appealed to the public to play their role in supporting the cleanliness efforts at the Village Council level. The Finance Department has directed that subsequent installments of funds will be released only upon submission of actual progress reports every three months, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.
