Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mardan Region Malik Rab Nawaz Khan said that his top priorities include resolving the city’s chronic traffic problems, taking strict action against land grabbers, and launching an effective crackdown on drug dealers, especially those involved in the ice (crystal meth) trade. He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of journalists led by Mardan Press Club President Muhammad Riaz Mayar and General Secretary Parvez Khan.
Senior journalists Yaqoob Jahanzeb, Faqir Hussain Hoti, and Shah Hussain Hoti were also part of the delegation. The RPO said that special committees would be formed to address traffic issues and that unnecessary U-turns within the city would be closed to improve traffic flow.
He added that his focus would be on reducing the culture of fines and instead ensuring the effective implementation of punishments to improve traffic discipline. “Imposing fines alone cannot solve the problem; practical and long-term measures are needed to ensure adherence to traffic laws,” Malik Rab Nawaz said. He further stated that a new mechanism is being developed for controlling Tez Raftar and Chingchi rickshaws in order to reduce congestion at major intersections and roads.
The RPO reiterated his commitment to maintaining smooth traffic flow, reducing road accidents, and providing maximum convenience to the public. He urged citizens to cooperate with the traffic police and follow the rules to help make Mardan a disciplined, safe, and peaceful city. Malik Rab Nawaz Khan also emphasized that a strict and indiscriminate operation would be launched against drug dealers, particularly those involved in the ice trade.
He said that the noose is being tightened around land grabbers and that no leniency would be shown in this regard. He concluded by saying that the police require full public support to transform Mardan into a peaceful city where the rule of law prevails.
