Right to Information (RTI) empowers Journalists to access verified information and official data as it ensures evidence-based reporting instead of relay solely on conflict narratives.
It was said by Syed Saadat Jehan, Deputy Director Communication, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC) while addressing to the participants of “Workshop on Conflict Reporting for District Journalist” here at a local hotel on Thursday.
The session was collaboratively arranged by non-governmental organizations URDO and FAFEN, wherein journalists from across the Merged Districts (NMDs) were the participants.
In the session, Syed Saadat Jehan explained the KP RTI Act, including its scope, procedures for filing applications, exemptions, and complaints. He said that journalists can responsibly use RTI to verify facts, access official records, and counter misinformation while reporting on conflicts.
In the session participants were provided with RTI awareness material and urged to play an ambassador role for this sunshine law in their respective domains.
