Dir PTA reminds consumers to register phone SIM cards under their own names

Director PTA, Kashif Ghafoor Monday reminded the public that phone SIM cards must be registered in the actual user’s name, stressing that using a phone SIM card registered to someone else is now against the law and could lead to legal consequences for both the user and the registered owner, urging consumers to verify their registration status Immediately. He stated that the person under whose name a SIM is registered will be fully responsible for any misuse, including voice calls, text messages and mobile data activities.

In an exclusive interview with a local news channel, Director PTA Kashif Ghafoor emphasized that the authority has been repeatedly reminding consumers about the importance of proper SIM card registration.

Ghafoor stressed that users must ensure their telecom services are used within legal boundaries. Failure to do so could lead to severe consequences, including penalties, service suspension, or even legal action.
The PTA continues to urge consumers to regularly check the registration of their phone SIM cards to avoid any potential issues and comply with the regulations. He warned that unregistered and improperly registered SIM cards must be regularized immediately to avoid punitive actions. This step is crucial to ensure compliance with the current telecom regulations.
Ghafoor emphasized that failure to update SIM card registrations could result in penalties or other legal consequences, urging users to take prompt action to stay within the law. Additionally, he pointed out that these numbers are often linked to social media and bank accounts, and any misuse could lead to serious harm, urging users to take prompt action to stay within the law.
Responding to a query, he explained that consumers can easily check their SIM registration status through the PTA website or by sending a number to a designated service. He also clarified that a single subscriber is allowed to register a maximum of 8 SIM cards.
