During the night of January 2–3, 2026, the Pakistan Army conducted a snow clearance operation at Burzil Pass to facilitate the operational movement of its forces.
The operation was led by Captain Asmad (28, Lahore). Around 2 a.m. on January 3, a snow slide occurred, entrapping Captain Asmad, Sepoy Rizwan (32, Attock), and civilian machine operator Essa (Astore), along with another soldier. All four were rescued after intensive efforts; however, Captain Asmad, Sepoy Rizwan, and Essa succumbed to injuries and embraced Shahadat.
The individuals rendered the ultimate sacrifice while leading a challenging operation under extreme weather conditions. Their devotion to duty underscores the Pakistan Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment to defend the motherland.
