ISLAMABAD
Ambassador of Sudan to Pakistan, Salih Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed, on Sunday reaffirmed the Sudanese government and people’s unwavering resolve to continue their struggle for freedom, sovereignty and national dignity, recalling the sacrifices made by their forefathers who secured independence in 1956.
The ambassador was addressing a reception hosted by the Embassy of Sudan to mark the National Day of Sudan. The event was attended by a large gathering comprising members of civil society, media representatives, government officials, diplomats, Sudanese nationals, students and embassy staff. National anthems of Sudan and Pakistan were played at the outset, reflecting the spirit of friendship between the two countries.
Welcoming the guests, Ambassador Salih described independence as a pivotal milestone in Sudan’s history and a defining moment in the long struggle of the Sudanese people. He said that celebrating National Day was not merely an act of recalling the past, but an opportunity to renew loyalty to the homeland and draw inspiration from the values of unity, solidarity and collective action.
He said these values were essential for building a better future based on peace, security, development, prosperity and the well-being of all citizens. Despite the severe challenges Sudan has faced in recent years, particularly due to conflict and instability, the ambassador stressed that the will and determination of the Sudanese people had remained unbroken.
Referring to the ongoing conflict, he said the Sudanese people had rallied behind their national army in what he termed the “War of Dignity,” under the leadership of Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He expressed confidence that the remaining parts of the country, including areas in Kordofan and Darfur, would soon be fully liberated, citing recent military successes.
The ambassador said the anniversary of independence also renewed hope for the future. He noted that during the past year, the “Government of Hope,” led by Dr. Kamil Idris, had been formed and had begun work on long-awaited reforms across various sectors.
He added that a comprehensive national peace plan had been presented to the United Nations Security Council and welcomed by regional and international bodies, reinforcing optimism for a safe, united and prosperous Sudan.
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Salih expressed appreciation for the longstanding brotherly relations between Sudan and Pakistan, which he said had steadily progressed in political, economic and cultural fields since Sudan’s independence. Pakistan has been quite forthcoming in sending relief goods and medical and other aid for the war-affected communities in Sudan and the people and the government highly value this gesture of deep friendship and solidarity.
Earlier, Military Attaché Major General Aldai Abdallah Al Tayeb offered condolences to the families of martyrs of the Battle of Karameh and prayed for peace, stability and prosperity for Sudan, while congratulating the nation on its Independence Day.
