Amid Lawyer Protests
Islamabad
A new room for Advocates-on-Record (AORs) was inaugurated at the Supreme Court on Monday by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi; however, the inauguration ceremony witnessed strong protests by lawyers.
During the event, AOR lawyers expressed serious reservations over the newly inaugurated room, terming it inadequate and comparing it to a “shed” and even a “room meant for animals.” One Advocate-on-Record directly raised objections before the Chief Justice of Pakistan, criticizing the condition and facilities of the room.
Meanwhile, journalists present at the venue were stopped from covering the event on the orders of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. Members of the Chief Justice’s staff also reportedly pressured journalists to delete video footage recorded during the inauguration.
The situation created a tense atmosphere at the Supreme Court, raising concerns among both the legal fraternity and the media over restrictions on coverage and the issues faced by Advocates-on-Record.
