The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formally decided to establish a state-of-the-art 1,000-bed tertiary care hospital in Malakand Division to improve access to quality healthcare services for residents of the region.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of the Health Department chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi at the Chief Minister’s House on Saturday.
The Chief Minister directed that the project be pursued in consultation with elected representatives of Malakand Division to ensure that local healthcare needs are adequately addressed.
He also ordered the immediate initiation of the land acquisition process for the proposed hospital.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Afridi said the establishment of the tertiary care hospital would provide significant medical relief to the people of Malakand Division by ensuring the availability of quality healthcare facilities within the region.
He said the hospital would be equipped with modern medical infrastructure, including emergency services, cardiac care and kidney transplant units.
The Chief Minister added that the project would help reduce the burden on major hospitals in the provincial capital and minimise the need for patients to travel long distances for medical treatment.
He said the proposed hospital would strengthen the provincial healthcare system and enhance public confidence in government health services.
Provincial Health Minister Khaliq ur Rehman, Members of the National Assembly Junaid Akbar and Dr Amjad, Members of the Provincial Assembly Shakeel Khan and Pir Musawir, and senior officials of the Health Department attended the meeting.
