Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Sunday strongly rejected claims made by PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat that Aleema Khan had sought the party’s chairmanship or expressed a desire to become chairperson herself.
In a statement, Barrister Gohar expressed disappointment over Sher Afzal Marwat’s remarks during a televised discussion, terming them unnecessary and misleading. “I had taken a commitment from Sher Afzal Marwat that he would refrain from making controversial statements,” Barrister Gohar said. “It is not appropriate to sit on multiple television channels simultaneously and attack personalities.”
Clarifying the issue, he categorically stated that Aleema Khan had never asked him to step down from the party chairmanship. “She has never conveyed any message or given any impression that she wants to become the party chairperson,” he said, adding that Aleema Khan has never interfered in party matters related to the chairman’s position.
Barrister Gohar further explained that PTI’s internal party elections were held on March 3, 2024, and the relevant documents were submitted to the Election Commission on April 10, 2024. “By April 2024, we were only waiting for the certificate. This does not provide any justification for such statements,” he added.
Calling for restraint, Barrister Gohar said that at times it is better not to respond. He reiterated his appeal to party leaders to avoid further controversial discussions that could damage the party’s image. “I once again request everyone to refrain from unnecessary and divisive commentary,” the PTI chairman concluded.
