Electricity tariff is likely to be scaled up all over the country amid the reports National Electric Power Regulatory Authority ( NEPRA) has completed hearing in this regard. NEPRA has completed hearing of the application seeing enhancement in power tariff by Rs 1.78 per unit under monthly adjustment head all over the country including Karachi. NEPRA has reserved the decision. The decision will be issued later. CPPA had filed application with NEPRA on monthly adjustment for the month of January besides requesting for enhancing power tariff by Rs 1.78 per unit.
During the hearing of application briefing was given that 8 billion 76 crore units electricity was sold during the month of January. The estimated cost of per unit fuel in the month of January was Rs 10.39 while original per unit fuel cost remained Rs 12.17.
CPPA took the plea cost rose due to less production and more consumption of hydro electricity .
Member NEPRA Punjab Amna Ahmad said during the hearing price of electricity is on rise. We were expecting improvement but the things are going in reverse direction.
She raised question why furnace oil plants were run during the month of January.
The authorities replied furnace oil plants were run to meet the demand due to increase in peak demand.
Member NEPRA Maqsood Ahmad said what increase has been demanded, its reason is use of furnace oil.
This increase in tariff will be applicable to K-Electric consumers too under government policy guidelines.
