The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Friday warned of dry weather and a significant rise in daytime temperatures across the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the coming days.
According to the authority, daytime temperatures in the province are expected to remain 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal until next week.
However, rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is likely in upper parts of the province, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla and Buner, as well as adjoining districts, during March 6, 7 and 9–12, the PDMA said.
The authority cautioned that prolonged dry conditions could affect water bodies and damage wheat crops in rain-fed areas.
It added that water demand and evaporation rates are also expected to increase due to the rise in temperatures.
The PDMA has directed district administrations to take precautionary measures and complete emergency preparedness in advance to deal with any potential situation.
Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
Authorities have also been instructed to enhance monitoring of rivers and rain drains, while citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 and other relevant agencies have been directed to remain alert to respond to any emergency.
The PDMA said its Emergency Operations Centre is fully functional. In case of any emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline 1700, a spokesperson said.
