PESHAWAR: The Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) has initiated teaching and training activities for the doctors in different specialties of the hospital aimed at promoting research and implying the latest techniques in surgical procedures.
The Clinical Executive Board led by HMC Medical Director Prof Shehzad Akbar Khan has set up a committee to organize an academic calendar for regularly conducting such activities. HMC Board of Governors (BoG) Chairman, Sahibzada Saeed, while appreciating these events directed the hospital administration to allocate substantial funds which would be readily available for such activities.
In this connection, the Orthopedic Department of the HMC Arthroplasty Society, headed by Prof Mohammad Arif in collaboration with an eight-member Pakistan Arthroplasty Society and Pakistan Orthopedic Association, organised a two-day workshop on “hip and knee” implants.
The participation was from different hospitals from all over the country.
The lecture session was followed by live surgery demonstration whereby implants worth Rs2, 00, 000 were instituted at no cost to the patient. The trainee doctors attending the session described the event an extraordinary opportunity for professional development.
Similarly, a seminar addressing common medical illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome was arranged by medical department efficiently supervised by chair of the Medicine Department Prof Mumtaz Ali Marwat. Prof A.H Amir, overviewed the session as a clinical expert and distributed shields.
