A three-year-old girl who had gone missing around 13 days ago from outside Civil Hospital Sujawal was recovered by police on Wednesday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sujawal, Alina Rajpar, mentioned during a press conference held at her office that the police team had successfully recovered the three-year-old Shahida Baran after resolute efforts and with the cooperation of the civil society.
“A team comprising members of civil society and Sujawal police was constituted to recover the missing girl,” said Aleena, adding that the team mounted a search in nearby villages with the help of local villagers and successfully recovered the girl from village Fida Baran. A report of the missing girl was registered at the local police station.
The family that had given shelter to the minor girl revealed that they had gone to Sujawal to obtain money through the Benazir Income Support Program; there they had found three-year-old Shahida outside the BISP Centre and started searching for her parents but could not find them. Instead of abandoning her, they considered it appropriate to keep the girl with them, and the family did not have access to social media, hence they could not connect with the parents of the missing girl.
The SSP said that the family that had given shelter to the girl was thoroughly investigated; hence, all kinds of speculation regarding abduction had been ruled out by the police.
Dr. Qamar Baran, chieftain of the local Baran tribe, expressed his gratitude to the SSP and Sujawal police for the timely steps taken for the recovery of the missing girl. He further said that the recovery had brought relief and joy for the parents facing misery for the past two weeks.
