The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will hold a public session at the Imran Khan Stadium on April 22 (Wednesday), offering citizens a rare opportunity to directly observe proceedings and engage with their elected representatives.
The session, convened by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, is scheduled to begin at 3pm and is being described as a step towards promoting transparency, public participation and democratic values.
According to officials, the open sitting marks the start of a broader initiative under which similar sessions will be held in different districts to strengthen direct contact between lawmakers and the public.
The decision to hold the first such session at the stadium was taken after consultation among members of the assembly, with both treasury and opposition benches supporting the move.
In a statement, Speaker Swati said the initiative aimed to bridge the gap between citizens and their representatives. “We want people to witness firsthand how their issues are raised in the assembly and what measures are being taken to address them,” he said, adding that such sessions would help enhance transparency and public trust.
He said the series would continue in other districts to enable wider public participation.
Adviser to the Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Tarand has directed the sports department and stadium administration to complete arrangements in a timely manner. The speaker appreciated the steps taken in this regard.
Officials said the police, district administration and other relevant departments had also been engaged to ensure smooth conduct of the session, with final arrangements under way.
