A meeting of the Standing Committee on Home and Tribal Affairs of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was held on Tuesday at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat with Chairman Tariq Saeed in the chair.
The meeting was attended by Law Minister Aftab Alam, MPAs including Iftikhar Ali Mashwani, Sajjad Ullah, Adnan Wazir, Ihsan Mian Khel, former Deputy Speaker Mahmood Jan, Ahmad Kundi, Shahid Bibi, Afshan Hussain, Faiza Malik and Shazia Jadoon, along with senior officials from the Home, Police and Law Departments.
During the meeting, members discussed various law and order and administrative matters in detail.
On a query raised by MPA Adnan Wazir regarding arrests from the Janikhel tribe, the committee directed police authorities to ensure the immediate release of innocent individuals while ensuring strict action against those responsible in accordance with law.
Officials informed the committee that recruitment of field operators in the Police Department would now be made on a permanent basis instead of contractual appointments.
Police officials also briefed the committee that development projects in the Janikhel area of Bannu district had been temporarily suspended due to the prevailing law and order situation, adding that these would be resumed in consultation with local elders once conditions improved.
On a proposal by MPA Sajjad Ullah, the committee directed that two new police stations and three police posts in Lower Kohistan be included in the Annual Development Programme (ADP).
In response to concerns raised by MPA Ahmad Kundi, the Home Department assured that a report regarding the functionality of monitoring units at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and the Inspector General of Police offices in Dera Ismail Khan would be presented in the next meeting.
Regarding action against alleged land grabbers in the Safed Sang area, officials assured the committee that arrests would be made and a detailed report submitted.
