Adviser to the Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand on Saturday said that encouraging young people to participate in sports was essential for their overall development.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the annual sports ceremony held at Government Centennial Model High School in Batagram, a handout said
Mr Tarand said that sports contributed not only to physical fitness but also to mental development, discipline, self-confidence and a positive outlook among students.
On the occasion, he distributed cash prizes among students who showed outstanding performance. He recalled that four months ago he had announced cash awards worth Rs600,000 for students of various government schools, which were formally distributed among deserving students and players.
The adviser said that promoting talented youth was among the government’s top priorities, adding that steps were being taken across the province to encourage sports and provide constructive opportunities to young people.
The ceremony was attended by school principals, teachers, local elders and a large number of spectators, who appreciated the initiative and termed such activities vital for promoting sports and a healthy spirit of competition among students.
