Special team to probe killing of Maulana Idrees: DPO Charsadda

CHARSADDA: District Police Officer (DPO) Charsadda Muhammad Waqas Khan on Tuesday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the killing of prominent religious scholar Maulana Sheikh Idrees, terming the incident “extremely sad, brutal and unbearable.” In a statement, the DPO said the martyrdom of Maulana Sheikh Idrees is a major tragedy not only for his family but also for society and religious circles at large. He added that Charsadda Police stands in full solidarity with the bereaved family in this hour of grief. He further said that during the incident, police personnel Constable Sher Alam and Constable Parvez Khan, who were on duty, sustained injuries. He wished them a speedy recovery. The DPO said that soon after the incident, a heavy police contingent reached the scene, cordoned off the area, and collected evidence. He added that CCTV footage from nearby locations has been obtained and is being thoroughly reviewed to help identify and arrest the suspects. To ensure a transparent and effective investigation, DPO Muhammad Waqas Khan has constituted a special investigation team under the supervision of SP Investigation Alamzeb Khan. The team has been tasked with conducting the probe on modern and scientific lines and has been provided with all necessary resources. He further stated that those involved in the “cowardly act” will be brought to justice, assuring that all available resources will be utilized to ensure their arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.
