PESHAWAR: The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) has decided to launch a protest movement against the continued dismissal of journalists, video journalists and other media workers by various media organisations across the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as non-payment of salaries and forced resignations. In this regard, an important meeting of the union has been convened on Tuesday at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) to finalise the protest strategy. Senior journalists from Peshawar will also be invited to develop a joint course of action on the prevailing situation. According to union leaders, the meeting will consider protests, rallies and other forms of agitation across the province. They said the growing unemployment of media workers was unacceptable, adding that such practices were not only undermining press freedom but also pushing hundreds of families into a financial crisis. The leaders further said the journalist community would raise its voice at all available forums to safeguard its rights and that the protest movement would be expanded across the province. DLP Report
