In a bid to safeguard the ecological heart of the federal capital, a high-level review meeting, steered by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry brought urgent development and environmental protection challenges back into sharp focus, signaling a renewed push for cleaner water, smarter planning, and responsible urban growth.
The meeting approved the installation of sewage treatment plants on drains falling into Rawal Dam to prevent contamination from sewage water. Various proposals for setting up the treatment plants were examined in detail.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that establishing sewage treatment facilities would ensure the provision of clean drinking water to residents. He reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating land-grabbers and illegal constructions from Islamabad, adding that the “Operation Clean-Up” will continue without any pressure until its logical conclusion.
During the meeting, the Interior Minister also directed that development work on the new block of Parliament Lodges be completed by June 30.
The forum reviewed the upgradation plan of the Capital Police College, under which new classrooms, a mess, and barracks for trainee personnel will be constructed.
Officials also gave a comprehensive briefing on ongoing and upcoming development projects in Islamabad. It was shared that three international companies have submitted design proposals for the construction of the new Convention Centre, and the evaluation process is underway. Once legal formalities are completed, construction on the new Convention Centre will begin in the last week of June.
Briefing further revealed that work is also progressing on 11 newly approved police stations in Islamabad.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary Interior, Chairman Capital Development Authority, IG Islamabad Police, the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, and other senior officials.
