LANDIKOTAL
Students of Government Postgraduate College Landikotal staged a protest demonstration against the delay in their examinations and blocked the Pak-Afghan Highway for all traffic on Monday.
The protesters chanted slogans in favour of their demands. Speaking on the occasion, Students union president Daud and other students leaders said that the BS 3rd-semester examinations were postponed at the last moment during the Pak-Afghan tensions following notifications issued by the deputy commissioner of Khyber and assistant commissioner Landikotal.
They said students were assured that the exams would be conducted once the situation returned to normal. However, despite meetings with the MNA, MPA, deputy commissioner, assistant commissioner and other relevant officials, no practical steps have been taken so far to resolve the issue.
According to student leaders, around 250 students of the third semester were waiting for their examinations and feared that their academic year may be wasted.
They demanded immediate arrangements for conducting the exams on an emergency basis to save the students’ academic year.
Later, following intervention by former tehsil chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari, negotiations were held between the students and administration. After assurances, the protesters reopened the highway for traffic after hours of blockade.
The students warned that if their issue was not resolved within two days, they would launch a more severe protest.
