LB polls in Islamabad: Holding LB polls is constitutional requirement: EC

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission (EC) has adjourned till July 7 hearing of the case related to Local Bodies (LB) polls in Islamabad. Member Sindh Nisar Durrani said we can hear the case on day to day basis to meet the constitutional requirement. The case related to LB polls in Islamabad came up for hearing in EC Wednesday. A four members bench led by member Sindh Nisar Durrani took up the case for hearing. Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon appeared before the EC. Deputy Commissioner told the administration has provided requisite maps to EC while the draft related to number of union councils has been sent to Prime Minister (PM) office for approval. Member Sindh Nisar Durrani remarked reply from PM office will be received within two or three days. He said holding LB polls is constitutional requirement. EC directed Deputy Commissioner Islamabad to obtain complete reply from PM office. The bench made it clear if reply is not received from PM office then attendance of interior secretary will be ensured on next hearing. Member Sindh said the hearing of the case can be held on day to day basis if need be. The hearing of the case was adjourned till July 07. ONLINE
