Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has strongly condemned Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s “highly provocative and irresponsible comments” regarding the Kashmir dispute, warning that New Delhi must not underestimate Islamabad’s resolve to thwart any adventurism. On Sunday, Singh declared there would be “no talks with Pakistan,” adding that if dialogue were to occur, it would only concern Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which he claimed was “illegally occupied by Pakistan.”
He further threatened that any “misadventure” would invite a response “beyond imagination,” according to the Times of India. In a statement issued Monday, the FO rejected Singh’s remarks, saying they distort facts about the UN-recognised Jammu and Kashmir dispute, which remains on the agenda of the UN Security Council. “His statement not only distorts facts but also reflects the Indian government’s deliberate policy to threaten regional and international peace and security,” the FO said.
The statement added that such rhetoric was an attempt to divert attention from India’s “continued occupation of Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, its sponsorship of terrorism across the region, as well as its domestic instability.” The FO stressed that India must not underestimate Pakistan’s determination to defend itself. “While resorting to misplaced rhetoric of aggression and belligerence, India must not underestimate the people and government of Pakistan’s unwavering resolve and determination to thwart any Indian adventurism,” the statement read.
It recalled the events of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos last year, when Pakistan’s armed forces and citizens stood united against Indian aggression. The FO also referenced the May 2025 conflict, which erupted after an attack on tourists in occupied Kashmir. India, without evidence, blamed Pakistan, sparking a four-day exchange of strikes between the two countries. Islamabad denied involvement and called for a neutral investigation. The crisis ended only after U.S. intervention on May 10 led to a ceasefire.
Pakistan urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take note of India’s “rogue behaviour” and hold it accountable for failing to uphold UNSC resolutions guaranteeing the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
