Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Adviser for Forests and Environment Pir Musawir Khan has ordered the immediate removal of illegally installed camping pods from Galiyat Sharan Forest Hut and adjoining tourist and forest areas, stressing that encroachments on forest land would not be tolerated.
During his five-day visit to Hazara Division, the adviser directed Forest Department officials to prepare PC-1 proposals for the rehabilitation and renovation of all forest rest houses in Kaghan Division and submit them for approval to improve facilities for tourists.
He said protection of forests and promotion of tourism were among the government’s top priorities. During his visit to Shogran Forest Rest House, Pir Musawir Khan met tourists from across the country, listened to their suggestions and assured them of improved facilities. He also reviewed the construction of additional rooms, ordered the establishment of a Forest Martyrs’ Memorial and directed expansion of the Walnut House.
As part of the monsoon plantation campaign, the adviser also planted a sapling at Shogran Rest House and inaugurated the Divisional Forest Office. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he called for improving departmental performance and ensuring better public services.
Later, Pir Musawir Khan visited Forest School Thai, where he inspected a guard of honour presented by forest guards and laid a floral wreath at the memorial of forest martyrs. He said the institution, established in 1974, was a leading training centre in Pakistan for forest guards and wildlife personnel and would be modernised further.
The adviser also held a meeting with the Kohistan Forest Owners Jirga and discussed forest conservation, public issues and cooperation with local communities. He said forests were valuable resources of the province and their protection was a collective responsibility for a better future.
