SHC rejects petition seeking disqualification of PPP MNA

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has rejected the petition seeking disqualification of PPP MNA Shazia Marri declaring the plea non maintainable. The court remarked high court has no powers to disqualify member of parliament under constitution. The court remarked objection of this nature was raised before election tribunal in 2018 elections. Election commission had rejected the objection regarding degree in 2022. The appeal was dismissed on its withdrawal from Supreme Court (SC) in 2023 on the decision of tribunal. Counsel for Shazia Marri said the matter of degree has come under discussion before election commission with evidence. Election commission has already rejected the petition related to degree of Shazia Marri . The court remarked the powers for declaring any person truthful and honest don’t lie with judicial tribunals under constitution. Only constitutional petition is not sufficient for declaring any one disqualified. In the light of orders of SC, the petition is not maintainable. Online
