The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan signed a five-year agreement to expand and support USEFP-administered educational exchange programs between the two countries, including the prestigious Fulbright scholarship. This agreement reaffirms the shared commitment of the governments of the United States and Pakistan to advance mutual economic prosperity, security, and scientific and technological development through higher education opportunities.
The agreement was signed by USEFP Executive Director Dr. Peter Moran and HEC Executive Director Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq at USEFP headquarters in Islamabad. The programs supported through this agreement reflect both governments’ investment in empowering future leaders, scholars, and professionals who will contribute to Pakistan’s progress while strengthening U.S.-Pakistan ties. Through this partnership, Pakistani students and scholars gain access to the renowned American education system while improving capacity across Pakistan’s higher education sector. Americans coming to Pakistan collaborate on innovative research, business, and public health ventures that benefit U.S. Universities, businesses, and the wider public.
USEFP Executive Director Dr. Peter Moran stated, “USEFP-administered programs empower participants to develop skills and practical knowledge that directly benefit Pakistan’s development across all sectors of society. For 75 years, USEFP has administered jointly funded educational and cultural exchange programs that have enabled more than 9,000 Pakistanis and nearly 1,000 Americans to enhance their professional expertise, conduct research, and build lasting connections in both countries.
The Fulbright Program, administered in Pakistan by USEFP, is the flagship scholarship program of the U.S. government. USEFP is a bi-national commission established by the governments of the United States and Pakistan in 1950 to promote mutual understanding through educational exchange.
