The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will plant 1.4 million saplings across the province in a single day on Independence Day, Information Minister Shafi Jan said on Thursday , describing the campaign as a step towards a greener and more sustainable Pakistan.
In his message on Pakistan’s Independence Day, Mr Jan paid tribute to the leaders and martyrs of the Pakistan Movement and said the nation must renew its resolve to make the country stronger, stable, prosperous and sovereign.
He said the plantation campaign was being carried out in line with the vision of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and on the directives of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. Extensive plantation would be carried out over a large area in Speen Khak, he added.
The minister said the “Ehsaas Shajarkari Web Portal” had been launched to identify plantation sites through GPS locations, monitor plantation activities and maintain a record of the number of saplings planted.
He recalled that KP had achieved the target of planting one million saplings in a single day on March 23 this year. He said the latest campaign was a gift to future generations and would contribute to a greener, safer and more prosperous Pakistan.
Mr Jan said Aug 14 was a historic day in the country’s history and paid tribute to Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and those who made sacrifices for the creation of Pakistan.
He said the youth inspired by Imran Khan’s vision would emerge as the “Shaheens” of Allama Iqbal and contribute to making Pakistan stronger and self-reliant.
The minister said the philosophy of Allama Iqbal and the vision of Imran Khan were centred on the rule of law, justice and equal rights for all citizens.
He urged the people to renew their pledge to contribute towards building a strong, prosperous, sovereign and green Pakistan.
