KHYBER: To mark Defense Day of Pakistan (06 September), a dignified ceremony was held at the Jirga Hall, tehsil compound, Landi Kotal on Saturday. Beside, Commandant Khyber Rifles Colonel Saeed Ahmed as a chief guest, the ceremony was attended by 176 Wing Commander Lieutenant Colonel Bilal Liaqat, District Police Officer Waqar Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Landi Kotal Inamullah Wazir, , former Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari, Malik Abdul Razaq Afridi, Malik Abrar Afridi, tribal elders, and families of security forces and police martyrs. Addressing on the occasion Colonel Saeed Ahmed paid tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, police and other law-enforcement agencies. News Desk
September 6, 1965, holds an important place in Pakistan’s history, when Pakistani soldiers demonstrated exceptional courage and strategic skill and successfully repelled the Indian attack, he remarked.
He maintained that lasting peace in the country and the region had been made possible through the sacrifices of the security forces, former Khasadar and Levies forces, police, other law-enforcement agencies and tribal elders in the war against terrorism.
The entire nation paid tribute to the martyrs and their sacrifices, he added and said that the families and children of security forces’ martyrs would continue to receive all possible assistance and would not be left alone.
At the end Colonel Saeed Ahmed distributed financial assistance among the families of security forces and police martyrs.
Prior to it, Commandant Khyber Rifles Colonel Saeed Ahmed visited the martyrs’ floral wreath on its memorial and offered prayers for the departed souls.
The organizers expressed their gratitude to the martyrs’ families, tribal elders and other guests for their participation in the gathering.
Meanwhile, in connection of the Defense Day, members of the minority community organized a “Pakistan Zindabad” (Long-Live Pakistan) rally at Bacha Khan Chowk in front of the District Press Club Khyber in Landi Kotal Bazaar led by former minority member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Wilson Wazir.
Speaking on the occasion, former MPA Wilson Wazir said that the Pakistan Army had rendered unparalleled sacrifices for the sovereignty, integrity and defense of the country.
Defence Day reminded the nation of the sacrifices of its martyrs and taught the people to remain united for the security, sovereignty and stability of the country, he opined.
He said the Pakistan Army was a source of pride for the nation and that its sacrifices had enabled people to live in a free and peaceful environment.
The participants raised slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Pak Army Zindabad” and paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the defense of the country.
