The district administration on Thursday claimed to have busted three residential premises in Sheikhabad allegedly being used for the preparation of substandard and hazardous tea using brown-coloured material and chemicals.
The operation was carried out on the directives of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peshawar retired Captain Sanaullah Khan by Additional Assistant Commissioner (Faqirabad) Samia Jabeen following a tip-off.
According to the administration, a large quantity of chemicals, brown-coloured material and several sacks of allegedly fake and hazardous tea leaves were recovered during raids on the three houses.
Three people found at the premises were arrested and the seized material was taken into custody, the administration said, adding that further legal action had been initiated against those allegedly involved in the activity.
The administration said preliminary findings suggested that various chemicals and other materials recovered from the houses were allegedly being used to manufacture adulterated and substandard tea.
DC Sanaullah Khan said ensuring the availability of safe and quality food products was among the administration’s top priorities. He directed relevant officials to regularly inspect the quality of food items across the city and take action against those involved in the production or sale of adulterated, counterfeit or hazardous products.
The district administration also urged citizens to report any information regarding the manufacture or sale of suspicious or hazardous food items so that timely action could be taken.
