New CJ to decide about commission on Panama Probe

Hearing adjourned till first week of January

Islamabad: Chief Justice Supreme Court has observed during the hearing of panama papers investigation case that formation of commission is our discretionary power. A 5-member larger bench of apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has conducted the hearing of the petitions filed for the probe of panama papers case.
During the course of the hearing, Naeem Bokhari, counsel of PTI has adopted that formation of commission on panama leaks is not acceptable as court would decided the matter and be acceptable adding that we would boycott the commission if constituted for the probe of panama papers.
Akram Sheikh, counsel of PM’s informed the court that Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz both are overseas Pakistanis. We would not create any hurdle in investigation of the case if court considers it appropriate adding that verdict of the court would be acceptable regarding hearing of the case or formation of investigation commission.
The CJ and head of five-member larger bench of apex court inquired from Salman Butt, counsel of PM Nawaz Sharif that what instructions did you receive about formation of panama commission. He responded that verdict of the court in this regard would be acceptable for us at every cast.
On this, the CJ said that you should tell your stance and leave the second party. Salman Butt said that there is no evidence on record against PM in panama papers case.
The CJ has observed that I am being retired and would not sit any bench after full court reference. The hearing of the panama case would be afreashed.
Later, the court has adjourned the hearing till first week of January, 2017. The newly constituted bench of apex court would heard the panama papers case.
