PESHAWAR (PR): Women social activists have called on the government to ensure effective participation of women in politics and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels.
They were addressing a meet the press event organized by Peace Education And Development (PEAD) Foundation here at University Town Peshawar. Women district member Peshawar, Rabia Basri said that women play into this label that we are not natural leaders and they are viewed less qualified and capable than men in many cases.
She said that there are many challenges to women in leadership and many of the challenges come from other people, yet some of them come from the women themselves.
‘Women have to face many challenges when they get a leadership role however they need to be confident in them and their ability to do anything’, she added
Another woman general councilor Sheela Mahfooz shared that we can see that a lot of women are working in top positions. In the absence of husband, woman runs their home and manages the education of kids.
The quote saying behind the success of every man there is a woman is really meaningful, she said.
Social activist Ms. Rahat expressed that it annoys me that women have little faith in them when it comes to leadership and they are ultimately responsible for the fact that they don’t rule the companies, because they don’t believe they can. She further said that women have always and will continue to struggle with the idea that they are not good enough.
Other women representatives also expressed their concerns regarding the challenges being faced by the women in leadership roles.
They were of the view that there is lack of leadership among the women, thus government have to take steps to ensure women equal opportunity to participate fully in the political process, so as they may play their active role in resolving the problems of their communities.
On the occasion PEAD representative Faisal Jalil told the journalists that their organization has been actively engaged in raising awareness among the women serving in various professions and have engaged them in many of their leadership programs in order to build their capacities in effective decision making and to serve as leaders.
