Dr Aafia Case
KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The Additional Attorney General (AAG) sought time from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for filing an amicus brief in the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. A larger bench of the IHC heard Petition No. 3139/2015 filed by Global Aafia Movement Chairperson and leading Pakistani neurophysician, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui. Advocate Imran Shafiq appeared for the petitioner, who was also present in person. Clive Smith, Aafia’s Lawyer, appeared via video link. On behalf of the government, Additional Attorney General Rashid Hafeez, Deputy Attorney General Arshad Mehmood Kiani, and Asad Burki, Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were in attendance. During the proceedings, counsel for the petitioner submitted that vide order dated 16.05.2025, the learned Judge-in-Chamber had allowed C.M. No. 921/2025—filed by the petitioner seeking amendment in the prayer clause of the main writ petition—while dismissing C.M. No. 811/2025 filed by the respondents, which sought disposal of the writ petition on grounds of it having become infructuous. APP
