Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan said on Thursday that water was the foundation of life, public health, and sustainable development, stressing that ensuring safe, reliable, and equitable water supply was the government’s foremost responsibility.
Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized at the Local Governance School, Hayatabad, in collaboration with UNICEF and Watson Cell to mark World Water Day, he highlighted ongoing efforts to prevent water wastage and provide clean drinking water across the province.
Shafi Jan said under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is implementing multi-billion-rupee projects, including the installation of water distribution and flow meters in five major cities under the KP Cities Improvement Project.
He added that worn-out pipelines were also being replaced to improve water quality and reduce wastage.
He acknowledged that a large section of the population still lacks access to safe drinking water and said the government aims to supply clean water to every household within the next three years. Emphasizing the link between water, sanitation, and hygiene, he called for better planning, effective governance, sustainable investment, and strong collaboration between government agencies, universities, and communities to preserve this vital resource for future generations.
