PESHAWAR
The Treasury and Accounts Staff Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has demanded end to Accountant General (AG) interference in the affairs of provincial treasury offices.
A meeting of the Treasury and Accounts Staff Association held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Syed Abid Ali Shah rejected direct interference of the AG and termed its directives against the spirit of provincial autonomy.
The association threatened appropriate legal actions against if the matters pertaining to provincial autonomy were violated by the Accountant General.
Syed Abid Ali said State Bank Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan and National Bank have been directed by the accountant general that no payment should be made without verification of District Account Officers (DAOs).
He termed these directives against the agreement reached between the State Bank and the KP Finance Department, adding that its direct interference in the financial matters of the province.
Similarly, the AG has issued a unilateral circular of distribution of duties to all DAOs in total violation of a scheme devised for the DAOs of the province and contradicting the KP Finance Department rules and regulations.
The accountant general has made an attempt to abolish the powers of payment and accounts maintenance of DAOs working directly under the provincial government.
Later, Treasury and Accounts Staff Association held a protest in front of the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) to demand that the accountant general should end its interference in the affairs of the DAOs.
The protesters carried placards and banners with slogans in favor of their demands.
The protesters threaten appropriate legal action against the accountant general for issuing directives to treasury officers of the province.
