Agriculture department holds olive awareness session in Khyber

To motivate farmers community pertaining gardening of olive siblings, an awareness session was held here in Jamrud district Khyber on Thursday.
In this connection a gathering was organized in district agriculture office that was attended by Director of Seed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP)Inayat Khan as chief guest besides Senior Scientific Dr Riaz Alam,Director Khyber Ziaul Islam, Agriculture Officer Dr Tayyab Khan, Agriculture Officer, Khyber Sharafat Khan Afridi,large numbers of farmers and cultivators.
Addressing on the occasion, the speakers including Inayat Khan, Ziaul Islam and others highlighted advantages of the farming of olive siblings and said planting of olive not only make country self-sufficient in edible oil but can also be a cash crop for the cultivators.
They maintained that standard and certified siblings are inevitable for additional production of olive and for the purpose the agriculture department is amiable to assist and guide the farmers.
Environment of Khyber is more suitable for growing of olive siblings therefore in the last three years, the agriculture department has planted it on 1400 acre land while further 0.2million plants will grow through drafting procedure, they added.
The experts urged the farmers to come forward and plant more olive gardens in their fields as the department will extend every possible support to them in this matter.
Prior to it, plantation drive was also kicked off by planting a sibling in the office.
At the end the attendees asked questions regarding gardening of olive that were answered by the agriculture experts.
