ISLAMABAD, Dec 22 (Online): Accountability Court (AC) Room No 3 Islamabad has indicted PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal and others in Narowal Sports City case.
The court led by judge Asghar Ali Khan took up the case for hearing on Tuesday.
Raising objection over charge sheet before his indictment Ahsan Iqbal told the court “ judge has to see first this case can be framed or otherwise. The judge does not talk only after hearing prosecution.
Judge Asghar Ali while preventing Ahsan Iqbal from talking more remarked “ we are not sitting here to hear such things. If you have to make any request then make it or talk through your counsel. After seeing the record before us we are saying this can be made obviously.
Jahangir Jadoon counsel for Ahsan Iqbal said “ how can this case be made. Has it been written on our forehead.
The judge remarked “ you can not announce decision before decision of the court. The evidence will be seen.
The charge sheet was read out in the court. According to charge sheet “ you extended the scope of Narowal Sports City (NSC) with malafide intent. You misused the powers for personal gains.
The other accused are former DG Pakistan Sports Board Akhtar Nawaz Ganjeera, Sarfraz Rasoon, Asif Sheik, officer of ministry of planning and private contractor Muhammad Ahmad.
All the accused pleaded not guilty.
The court ordered NAB to present all accused on January 12.
Later talking to media men outside the court, Ahsan Iqbal said not a single line of financial irregularity against him is in reference. It is mentioned in the reference not a single project like this is in the country. Had there been 10 more projects like this then it could have been said that additional expenses have been incurred.
He held false cases are designed for character assassination and wastage of time. We are not one to be cowed by these false cases. I demand of Chief Justice of Pakistan to order for airing the proceedings of these cases live.
He went on to say that it is such accountability which is trying to run without legs. Time of judges is also being wasted by framing baseless cases. The burden of false cases has been shifted to the courts.
He observed one who has legalized the illegal constructions in Bani Gala is instituting the cases. CDA bulldozers were used to demolish the encroachments of poor people but why its brakes stopped at the home of Imran Khan in Banigala.
He remarked “ this Bani gala NRO has been taken and we will not forgive it. This man demolishes homes of poor people and saves his palace.
He claimed that Narowal sports city has been reduced to ruins due to this government. Pakistan has gone missing from the victory stand of sports in the world. PM calls him sports man and on the other hand working out sports project has become offence today.
There is no allegation of financial irregularity of a single pie in the reference. It was said why the project was executed in Narowal. Is Narowal in India or Israel.
This government only knows to pull rather than to push and it is pulling every thing back, he added.
