Another series of rains, strong winds and snowfall in upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to start from the evening of March 10, the official of the Meteorological Department said here Friday.
PDMA has issued a new notification to all district administrations to stay alert, DG PDMA Muhammad Qaiser Khan said. In view of the rains and snowfall, the district administration has been directed to take precautionary measures, DG, PDMA Muhammad Qaiser Khan warned.
Landslides in upper districts due to snowfall and rains, PDMA officials said. DG PDMA said that they had already issued directives to district administration to ensure availability of small and heavy machinery.
In the event of a storm, people should stay away from power lines, dilapidated buildings and structures, sign boards and billboards.
Tourists and local population in sensitive upper areas are instructed to be aware of weather conditions and take precautionary measures, DG PDMA Muhammad Qaiser Khan said. In sensitive districts, messages to the district administration should be conveyed to the local population in local languages, he said.
In any emergency situation, all concerned organizations should be vigilant in maintaining road links and provide alternative routes for traffic in case of road closure. Passengers should be warned in advance on provincial and national highways in sensitive areas, he said.
He said, ensure the availability of emergency services personnel during this time and tourists should be informed about the weather situation. Rain and snowfall are likely to continue intermittently till March 14.
Tourists should take special precautions while traveling and availability of heavy machinery should be ensured in case of emergency besides provision of medicines should also be ensured in hospitals.
