The Dera Ismail Khan Police on Monday claimed to have arrested assassins of Umar Kihtab Shirani, a candidate of the Awami National Party (ANP) for the city mayor in Dera-tehsil.
Umar Kihtab Shirani was shot dead in Gulshan-e-Hameed Model Town.
The attackers had fled the scene after committing the crime.
DPO said that the suspects Abdul Hakeem and Mohammad Shafiq were arrested and both had confessed to having killed Mr Shirani over a personal dispute. Police also set aside act of terrorists behind the mayorship candidate murder,adding that investigation was carried out on scientific way to reach the real culprits.
Addressing a news conference District Police Officer (DPO) Capt (R) Najamul Hasnain Liaqat said that the alleged killer of Umar Khitab Shirana, who was shot dead two days before local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), was arrested.
Mr Sherani was the president of the ANP and after his murder the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had cancelled the elections for the slot of mayoship in the Dera-tehsil.
