The President of the AwamiANP candidate shot killed in DI Khan
National Party (ANP) in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) and candidate for the tehsil mayor Umar Khittab Sherani was shot killed by unknown assailants on Saturday.
Sherani was also a member of DI Khan District Bar Council. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan took notice of the tragedy and directed the police to submit report.
According to the police spokesman, unknown gunmen opened fire on Umar Khittab Sherani outside his house in the Saturday morning, killing him on the spot.
The DI Khan police spokesman said that Sherani’s murder of ANP candidate is a clear act of terrorism but the police is conducting further investigation. Police informed that he (Sherani) has been shot twice in the head with a 9mm pistol.
DPO DI khan said that the Police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies have launched separate investigations. The DPO said that the body is being shifted home.
The ANP strongly condemned the murder of yet another ANP leader in the broad daylight and demanded justice.
Meanwhile, Election Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday terminated election process in City Council Dera Ismail Khan after the death of ANP’s candidate Muhammad Khitab.
According to a notification issued by Returning Officer (245) City Council DI Khan Muhammad Ishaq, said that consequent upon the sad demise of Muhammad Khitab son of Issa Khan Circular Road DI Khan the contesting candidate for Mayor seat, the election process for City Mayor at DI Khan has been terminated under the rule 26 (1) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Councils (Conduct of Election) Rules, 2021.
It is worth mentioning here that Muhammad Khitab has been killed by unknown assailants in front of his house in Dera city.
Barrister Saif condemns killing of Umar Khitab in DI Khan
Special Assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif has condemned the killing of ANP candidate for city mayor D I Khan, Umar Khitab and expressed sorrow over the incident.. In a message issued here Saturday, Barrister Saif condemned the incident and offered condolences to bereaved family members. He said that anti-state elements are trying to disrupt peace of the areas adding they would be dealt accordingly. He said that KP CM has taken notice of the incident and directives have been issued for immediate arrest of perpetrators. He also prayed to rest the departed in eternal abode with peace.
