PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Friday strongly condemned the suicide attack on the Manjhi Khel security check post in Tank district, describing the martyrdom of several security personnel and a civilian as deeply tragic. In a statement, he expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the early recovery of the injured. Mian Iftikhar criticised both the federal and provincial governments over what he termed the deteriorating security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alleging that terrorism was increasing while the country’s leadership remained focused on political priorities instead of addressing public safety. He claimed that residents of several areas in Bannu and Lakki Marwat had effectively remained confined to their homes for the past five days, alleging that the continued suspension of telephone, mobile and internet services had left people unaware of the ground situation. The ANP leader further alleged that shortages of essential commodities were emerging in the affected areas and that residents were facing difficulties in accessing medical treatment and carrying out basic activities, including attending funerals and burials. Calling the situation unacceptable, he urged the provincial government to brief the public on the prevailing conditions in the southern districts and take immediate measures to restore normal life in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and other affected areas. He also called on the federal and provincial governments to fulfil their constitutional responsibilities by ensuring peace and protecting the fundamental rights of citizens. DLP Report
