Awami National Party (ANP) Central President Senator Aimal Wali Khan on Friday paid tribute to Haroon Bilour and Maulana Khanzeb on their eighth and first death anniversaries, respectively, saying their sacrifices for peace, democracy and constitutional rights would always be remembered.
The ANP chief described Haroon Bilour as a committed and courageous political worker who dedicated his life to public service, democratic values and the promotion of peace.
He said Bilour had carried forward the legacy of his father, Bashir Bilour, and remained steadfast despite threats from forces opposed to peace and democracy.
Senator Aimal Wali said the sacrifices of Haroon Bilour and other party workers martyred alongside him had strengthened the resolve of the ANP to continue its democratic struggle. Paying tribute to Maulana Khanzeb, he described him as a committed advocate of Bacha Khan’s philosophy of non-violence, peace and democratic politics.
He said Maulana Khanzeb devoted his life to raising political awareness among the Pakhtun people about their rights, resources and constitutional protections, adding that his martyrdom was a significant loss but his ideas would continue to inspire future generations.
Referring to the prevailing security situation, Senator Aimal Wali said KP and Balochistan continued to face terrorism and insecurity, with civilians, political activists, police personnel and advocates of peace frequently coming under attack.
He said the ANP had consistently opposed terrorism, extremism and violence and had paid a heavy price for its stance through the sacrifices of its workers and leaders.
Calling for unity among democratic forces, the ANP president urged political parties to work together for lasting peace, the supremacy of the Constitution and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to carrying forward the mission of its fallen leaders and continuing its struggle for peace, democracy and the rights of the people.
