PESHAWAR
The anti-corruption week concluded here at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University SBBWU observes wherein participants called for identifying and eliminating root causes of the menace for a corruption free society.
The week long activities included series of awareness, ‘Table Talk’ by department of Law. The incharge, Asst, Prof. Arzoo Farhad delivered a lecture regarding the integral function of National Accountability Bureau and Ordinance roles and functionalities.
After a deliberate discussion, many of the students were of the view that all the institutions must maintain a balance between their rights and responsibilities in order to create an environment which discourage corruption.
Another session was organized I which Dr. Sohail Shahzad, Professor, Law College, University of Peshawar was invited as guest speaker.
While talking to the students and faculty, Dr. Sohail Shahzad said that corruption has embedded in our society and it is imperative to identify the real causes for this and work on them and try to remove all discrepancies to ensure corruption free society.
He also talked about the irregularities opted in taxation process of the country and enlightened the audience as to how tax money is stolen which marks a deep dent in the economy.
The university Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmed while expressing her views regarding this day said, “corruption is the biggest challenge of our society at this time to put an end to it we must take steps on our own. Unless we start taking steps, we will not be able to eliminate the challenge of corruption from our institutions, our society and Pakistan.”
The concluding session was followed by painting display under the supervision of Assistant Professor, Fatima Amin of the Department of Fine Arts. Also the students of Department of English Language and Literature, under the supervision of Assistant Professor, Sadia Nazeer.
Later an awareness walk was also held at the university with a resolve by all the students and faculty to play their roles in creating a corruption free society.
