Lahore Commissioner on Saturday issued strict orders regarding anti-smog policy as Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city reached 428.
The commissioner has ordered the joint teams of Traffic Police and Municipal Corporation to carry grand operation, due to encroachment. In the meeting chaired by commissioner Lahore, it has been decided to make five teams of traffic squad for the crackdown on smoking Vehicles.
On the advice of the commissioner, the inspectors of transport and the municipal corporation will be included in the squad. The commissioner said, for one month only Euro 5 fuel is supplied in the city, while the supply of Euro 2 fuel is suspended.
The commissioner said that by using Euro 5 fuel, there will be a reduction in the emission of Sulphur, which would help to decrease the effect of smog. The commissioner formed joined team of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), West Company and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to spray water across the city.
Commissioner Lahore has ordered to deploy permanent teams to check vehicles in more polluted areas of the city. The commissioner ordered to take strict action on not spraying water on buildings and sought a report, within a time period of two days. On the other side, pollution in Lahore makes it difficult for citizens to breathe as Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city reached 428.
Experts have warned that 428 AQI is dangerous for human health. The city will continue to be affected by pollution even today.
The places around Jail Road Mall Road, Ferozepur Road, Harbanspura, Wagah, Township, Defence, Raiwind remained the most vulnerable to smog. In the evening hours, the AQI reached 500. The Ultimate Index to 428 Air means the situation in the city is worst.
