Chairman of the All Pakistan Commercial Exporters Association (APCEA), Iftikhar Ahmed attended an important meeting of the Core Committee on gemstone exports, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The meeting focused on strategies to enhance gemstone exports and unlock the sector’s full potential. Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar and Secretary Industries and Production Saif Anjum were also present.
The prime minister stressed that the development of the gemstone sector requires full engagement of the private sector, adding that exporters should be provided with maximum possible facilities. He also emphasised the need for broad-based consultation with the private sector and relevant stakeholders while finalising the proposed gemstone policy.
Welcoming the proposed gemstone policy, APCEA Chairman Iftikhar Ahmed said granting industry status to the gemstone sector would enable it to benefit from various incentives, significantly boost exports, and help generate valuable foreign exchange for the country. He added that the initiative would contribute to economic stability in line with the prime minister’s vision.
Secretary Industries and Production Saif Anjum assured the prime minister that recommendations put forward by APCEA, as a key stakeholder in the sector, would be welcomed and duly considered.
