ISLAMABAD
The Capital Development Authority (CDA), Islamabad, has clarified that the area located in F-11/1 near Ali Market is a public playground and not a designated cricket ground.
The CDA spokesman in a statement in Islamabad said the Body initially permitted its use for the cricket but the residents reported disruptions caused by large crowds i.e., property damage from cricket balls, excessive noise from matches and commentary.
He said the CDA again reviewed the space as a multi-purpose ground to accommodate broader community needs.
However, cricket activities have not been entirely discontinued. To address this, the CDA has proposed the development of an indoor cricket facility.
It is also important to note that there are already two cricket grounds in sector F-11, located near Tehzeeb Bakers and Khudad Heights, which remain accessible to the cricketers.
The spokesman said regarding misconduct allegations, a formal inquiry has confirmed that a CDA-employed gardener colluded with cricketers from Rawalpindi to misuse the ground for personal gain, including illegal activities such as gambling and betting.
He said disciplinary proceedings have been initiated, and the concerned employee has been suspended and investigation are in operational.
Additionally, he said, an FIR is being filed against those involved in criminal misconduct.
