541,645 patients received free treatment; govt paid Rs 9,291 millions to hospitals in 2021, report

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) health department on Tuesday revealed that more than 7.5 million families have been enrolled under the Sehat Card Plus program whereas 541,645 patients received free treatment during 2021.
According to statistics, overall 7,590,098 families enrolled for receiving free medical facilities from January 2021 to December 24, 2021 under the Sehat Card program.
Moreover, 541,645 patients received treatment in 679 hospitals across the country including 167 hospitals of the province and the government paid Rs 9,291 millions to different public and private hospitals in 2021.
”Around 59,446 maternity-related operations were carried out during the year at the cost of Rs750 million in different hospitals of the province,” the report added.
Angioplasty of over 11,000 patients was performed incurring expenses of Rs2171 million.
The report stated that 22,000 patients underwent free appendix operation at the cost of Rs294 million while free chemotherapy treatment of 14,000 patients was carried out at the cost of Rs271 million.
?”Above 90,760 patients underwent free dialysis treatment, resulting in the payments of Rs276 million via Sehat Card Plus,” it said.
The provincial government treated 24,793 patients of Tonsillectomy, 24,045 patients of Cataract, 22, 398 of Appendicectomy, 18,316 patients of Oncology, 9,045 patients of Cholecystectomy and 7,265 patients of Heamorrhoidectomy under the program.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in KP on January 31, 2021 launched a free healthcare facility coverage for all of its citizens.
Under the Sehat Card Program a person with CNIC in KP can get free treatment at 679 government and private hospitals across the country.
More than 38 million people in the province benefited from the free health protection package.
Sehat Card Plus scheme in the province covers all secondary care health diseases and tertiary care diseases like accident and emergency, diabetes, kidney diseases including dialysis and kidney transplant, hepatitis B and C. All patients of cancers and heart and vascular diseases can also avail this health coverage of the provincial government.
It is pertinent to mention here that the KP government has now included liver and bone marrow transplants under the Sehat Card Plus scheme.
