The former National Assembly Speaker and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Asad Qaiser on Wednesday approached Peshawar High Court (PHC) challenging the jurisdiction of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in its country-wide inquiry into its party prohibited foreign funding case.
Talking to media outside the PHC, Asad Qaiser clarified that he did not approach the court to submit an application for bail or any other relaxation.
I have challenged the jurisdiction of the FIA in the inquiry against prohibited foreign funding cases.
“PTI as a political party opened different accounts for its convenience and it is not unlawful in the country as they (accounts) were used for transactions strictly related to salaries of employees and other necessary expenditures of the party offices,” he said.
Asad Qaiser said that all transactions were made through cheques, adding that during the six years only Rs2.1 million transactions have been made in the accounts.
I have challenged the jurisdiction of FIA in the PHC as the agency has no legal ground for inquiry into the case, he added.
FIA Peshawar has summoned the former NA Speaker in a prohibited foreing funding case on August 11 (today).
According to the notice sent to Mr Asad, stated that as per ECP verdict on the funding case, he has opened and used two bank accounts.
