Awareness stressed for combating food security challenge

Assistant Professor at department of agriculture Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Sheringal Dr Niaz Ali said on Wednesday that food security is one of the major challenges of the modern age, saying millions of people are faced with the problem of food insecurity across the globe.
He said that food security challenges can be addressed with the help of mass awareness programs in society to prepare them to take pragmatic steps for sufficient crop production.
He expressed these while addressing an event held at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Sheringal in connection with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority.
Highlighting the importance of day, Dr Niaz added that millions of people across the globe are food insecure and faced with the problem of malnutrition, adding that the overall aim of the World Food Day is to alert people to brace up for the challenge of food security and increase their production.
Dr. Niaz Ali said that along with the availability of food, attention should also be paid to the quality, so that access to quality and safe food can be ensured to the citizens.
Speaking at the event, Muhammad Abbas, Assistant Director, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority, Dir Upper, said that the Food Safety Authority organized an event across the province to highlight the importance of this day.
He said that the Food Safety Authority is playing its role fully in ensuring the supply of quality and safe food.
Dr Syed Abdul Khaliq Jan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university also addressed the event, and highlighted the importance of the day.
He urged the students to play their role in creating awareness among the people regarding malnutrition and food quality.
