The most influential bureaucrat Azam Khan will retire from the service in September, 2024, sources

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s principal secretary Azam Khan, the most influential bureaucrat in the incumbent government, will join World Bank (WB) as executive director in the November next.
According to sources in the PM’s secretariat, Naveed Kamran Baloch executive director WB tenure will expire in the coming November while PS to PM Azam Khan will replace him. Earlier in February, the Prime Minister approved the appointment of Azam Khan for the post of executive director of the World Bank.
Sources revealed that 18 months ago the PM had asked Azam Khan to join WB. However, he did not accept the offer and put forward the name of the Federal Secretary of Finance Naveed Kamran Baloch.
At the time of nomination, Mr Naveed was the most senior bureaucrat in the civil services. As Naveed Kamran Baloch’s tenure as an executive director WB to be ended in November, In February Prime Minister Imran Khan approved the summary of Azam Khan for the post.
To a question, a close associate of Azam Khan said that the nomination of PM Principal Secretary as an executive director at WB has nothing to do with the ongoing political situation in the country.
The summary related to his nomination for the above mentioned post was approved in February, 2022. Azam Khan served in key positions such as chief secretary KP, additional chief secretary Planning & Development, additional chief secretary FATA, and secretary Home and Tribal Affairs Department KP.
He had a commendable career at civil bureaucracy in the country, who will retire from the service in September, 2024.
