ISLAMABAD: Bahria University organized a seminar on corporate skills that was attended by a large number of entrepreneurs, members of academia, business community representatives and of course a large number of students.
The seminar was designed with the primary objective of enhancing students’ professional development and furnishing them with the requisite skills essential for success in the corporate sphere.
Former President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) and CEO of Centaurus Mall, Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan was invited to address the corporate skills session.
In his address to the youth, Sardar Yasir emphasized the critical role of practical knowledge and corporate skills in preparing students for the real-world challenges they will face in their careers.
The focus on ‘practical approach’ goes beyond traditional classroom learning, encouraging students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. This approach not only enhances their problem-solving abilities but also instills a sense of adaptability, a crucial trait in today’s fast-paced business environment. He said some of the key skills that should be emphasized Include Critical Thinking, adaptability and resilience, Teamwork and collaboration, Digital Literacy, and leadership skills such as initiative, accountability, and the ability to inspire others are highly valued in the professional realm.
In Pakistan there exists a significant disparity between the skills being taught at universities and the skills demanded by the corporate world. This gap highlights the need for a more comprehensive and practical approach to education that aligns with the ever-evolving demands of the professional landscape.
To bridge this divide, universities should work to incorporate corporate skills into their curriculum. These institutions are taking proactive measures to ensure that students are equipped with the tools and knowledge required to succeed in the competitive job market, he said. A uniform approach should be adopted by universities to corporate skills, where professionals from various industries are invited to share insights and expertise. Towards the end of the session, Rector of Bahria University, Admiral (R) Asif Khaliq thanked the guest speaker and presented him a shield as a mark of gratitude.
